In an Exclusive interview Peter Parker asks the uprising vigilante about himself.
Reporter Parker: I’m glad to have you on today, I want to start off by saying that your situation is very controversial and many don’t see you as a hero, but rather as someone who believes they are above the law.
Gentleman: I have a responsibility Peter.
Peter: Well yes, I feel everyone does, but even you must realize that your ways are… violent.
Gentleman: And in which ways does violence indicate wrongdoing? Because my villains don’t escape Belle Reeve or Arkham every week? I do what I do to save lives Mr. Parker.
Peter: And to those who say you shouldn’t hide behind a mask?
Gentleman: What’s your play Parker?
Peter: Well I think-
Gentleman: That’s the problem. I’m not some goody two shoes. I’m not Spider-Man. I do what I must because it stops it from happening again. Now quit the aggressive angle and politics Jameson put you on or I’m gonna bounce. Hope simply doesn’t need to be seen, it’s a symbol that requires no face.
Peter: okay I get it, here’s the real questions, Why do you do what you do?
Gentleman: I lost someone close to me. And the Heroes you all praise failed to save her. Superman Failed. Iron Man. Some low level thug killed her. All of you heroes are focused on the intergalactic threats and none of you could save her.
Peter: I know what that’s like-
Gentlman: And yet you do NOTHING Mr. Parker. I know of your uncle. He was a breath of fresh air that man. He was killed, and you stand aside and forget. You’re just like the rest of the people, no action when inflicted upon.
Parker: … That’s too far.
Gentleman: Is it? Or did I just say what nobody else has the guts to? Men like your uncle die every day because people wait for someone else to save them. And you just move on, well I’m not.
Peter: You think killing fixes that?
Gentleman: better than telling the families to start burying their dead.
Peter: You crossed a line bringing my uncle into this.
Gentleman: I crossed a line? You asked me why I wear the mask. Because if I don’t, another kid buries his father. Another wife gets a folded flag. Another mother gets a knock at the door at three in the morning. That’s the line I care about. I may not be the most colorful hero, but to those I save I am the embodiment of hope, the hope that someone does something.
Peter: That’s not justice, it’s murder.
Gentleman: Justice? Don’t lecture me about justice. Justice is watching a murderer serve eight years and walk out smiling. Justice is watching Arkham empty itself every other month. Justice is a word people in suits use so they can sleep at night.
Peter: People are afraid of you.
Gentleman: Why? because I’m not interested in being a hero.
Peter: I don’t think you are one…
Gentleman: Maybe not to the elites, but the people who’s lives I save- I’d think so.
Peter: Well we’ve gotta wrap this up- is there anything you’d like to say?
Gentleman: instead of the heroes focusing on me, they need to focus on what’s coming to this city, the Viltrumites, homelander, the freaks that terrorize the city.
Peter: What will you do?
Gentleman: Protect the People.
